Lesson 6 - Creating Content

The Secrets to Writing Articles
This is Lesson 6 of how to build residual income. If you haven't already, look on the left side bar to find and read all of the previous lessons. In the last lesson, making money with hubpages, I talked about how you can start making money without having to spend any money. You want to use hubpages because of the powerful it has with ranking in Google's search engine. If you have been following along with the lessons, by now you should have signed up with a hubpages account, done some keyword research, and play around with hubpages a bit and perhaps created a hub.

If you have done that, then congratulations. When it comes down to being successful, it's all about taking action. As they say, talk is cheap and this world if full of talkers. Now that you have created a hub (name for a page on hubpages), or at least signed up for an account, the next challenge you will have is writing articles on topics you found to be profitable. If you missed the part about how to research for profitable keywords, read Lesson 4.

When it comes to making money with a website, one of the things you will have to learn how to get good at if you don't want to spend any money outsourcing, is writing articles. This may seem daunting to some of you but don't worry, it's not like writing for school or anything. I'll be showing you how to write a basic article on a topic you know nothing about. Let's get started.

1. Find the profitable keyword. (Lesson 4)

Some places you can look for keywords would be advertisements in newspapers, Amazon, Ebay pulse section, and even TV commercials. You're looking for products or topics to enter into the Google keyword tool to find words that give you at least 3,000 global searches as well as at least $1 in CPC. Once you find a keyword, you want to search for it on Google. What you want to look for is a keyword that will bring you less than 1,000,0000 search results (upper right hand), the lower the better. If you can find one under 100,000, then you most likely have a winner. This is just a basic technique. If you are having a hard time finding profitable keywords then I suggest you sign up with the Keyword Academy and learn all you need to know for $1.

2. Research topic/product.

The Secret to Writing Articles

This part is quite simple if you know what you are doing. The best way to do this is to go to Ezinearticles. Once you are there, search for your keyword. You should see a bunch of articles that other people have written on the same subject. This is serve as your resources for research.

What you want to do from here is quickly go through 3-5 articles and find a main point and 2-3 supporting points. You don't want to be reading the entire article. Just find one point about the topic and move onto the next article. While you're doing this, you want to write down some notes. Here is the basic format you want to use for you article.

Basic Format of Articles

Introduction (introduce main point)
Paragraph 1 (use supporting point #1 to back up your main point)
Paragraph 2 (use supporting point #2 to back up your main point)
Paragraph 3 (use supporting point #3 to back up your main point)
Conclusion (summarize the main point and supporting points)

Let me give you a quick example. Say my topic is desktop fans. My main point might be something like "there are many benefits of owning a fan". My supporting points would be something like: a) They help cool you down, b) They are cheaper than air conditioners, c) They are portable.

For each of those supporting points, I would write a little bit about it.

If you use this format of researching and writing, you shouldn't have a problem writing 400 words about topics you know nothing about. If you still are having a problem with writing 400 word articles, then you may want to check out this program called 7 Minute Articles. It contains videos that will take you through the entire process of writing articles about any topic as well as being able to turn your one article into 8 articles.

Writing 400 word articles shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes or so including research. If it is, then you may want to check that program out. It'll help you cut your writing time down dramatically. If you are already writing articles in under 15 minutes with research, then you probably don't need it unless if you want to learn how to turn 1 article into 8 articles. This will be highly useful once you start your link building to increase your rankings.

It's called 7 minutes articles because the author claims he can help you write articles in 7 minutes, including research. Well, the research and writing format he teaches is awesome, but to actually write 400 words in under 5 minutes (2 minutes for research), he uses a speech recognition software. I type at about 50 words a minute and can bust out an article in about 12 minutes with research. I used to spend 20-30 minutes on research, but using the technique I learned from that program, I brought it down to just a few minutes.

Why 400 Words

The reason you want to write 400 words, by the way, is that this is seen as the ideal number of words to write since you will have enough content to be found by long-tailed keywords, keywords related to your topic that people may search for in the search engines. For hubpages however, you want to shoot for around 800. It's not absolutely necessary, but it's preferred. Many of mine are over that but I have plenty that are between 500-800 words. You definitely want to do at least 400 though.

What Next?

Once you create your hubpage and add a couple of pictures and a video if you can find one related to your topic, you will be done with step 1 of making money with hubpages.

Step 2 is to market them by getting backlinks. You will be doing this by writing 400 word articles and submitting them to Ezinearticles, the same site you used to research for your topic. You don't have to write 400 words, you can write 250 if you want as well. Just look at a few articles on Ezinearticles.com and you'll see how people put backlinks into the author box. Ezinearticles is also a very strong site that is liked by Google. Combining hubpages and Ezinearticles is a killer strategy.

The problem is having to write several articles about the same topic can sometimes be very difficult especially if you have a boring topic. This is why knowing how to turn 1 article into 8 is such a time saver.

The Reality

If after reading this lesson about how to write articles, you feel like this is going to be a lot of work, then here's what I have to say. Yes, it is a lot of work, at first. When you are starting out, it may take you an hour just to create your first hub. My first 5 hubs all took over an hour. However, once you get used to the formatting of creating hubs, the research process, the writing process, you will be busting them out pretty quickly. The best part is that once you start making money, you can pay someone else to do it for you.

This is what the top internet marketers do to earn residual income online. They don't have time to be sitting at their computer writing dozens of hubs and articles. They just pay other people to do it for them. If you already have some money to use, then at first, you still want to do some of this stuff on your own so you know the process. Then you can find people to write for you.

Summary of This Lesson

To to recap, sign up for hubpages, do keyword research to find your profitable words (Lesson 4), research your topic, create your hubpage (400-800 words), and finally build backlinks through things like writing articles for Ezinearticles.com and Goarticles.com. Shoot for 100 hubs. Yes, that sounds like a lot but people have done that within a month. However, pace yourself. If it takes you 6 months, then it takes you 6 months. If you are serious about making money online without spending any or much money, then this is the path to take.

If you have any questions on this process, feel free to leave a comment down below. If you are feeling a bit overwhelmed, don't worry about it, take it one step at a time. The more you do this, the better you'll get at it. Once you start seeing some money come in, your motivation, confidence, and belief will increase. The important thing is to not give up. Anything new will be hard, just like riding a bike or learning to drive. Once you do it a few times, it'll become simple. Keep at it and you'll make it.
